Chair, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology / Chief Medical Executive, Women’s Health Service Line / Associate Professor, Lehigh Valley Health Network / USF Morsani College of Medicine
Amanda Flicker, MD, CPE, FACOG is the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Chief Medical Executive of the Women’s Health Service Line at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) in eastern Pennsylvania. She received a BS in Chemistry from Villanova University followed by medical education at Pennsylvania State University and obstetrics and gynecology residency training at Pennsylvania Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Dr. Flicker joined LVHN in 2006 to practice obstetrics and gynecology, later transitioning to a clinical role as an obstetric hospitalist.
Relevant to her passion for medical education, she has served various roles in the educational realm, including women’s health clerkship co-director for University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine SELECT program and obstetrics and gynecology residency director. In her current role as Department Chair, she has supported the establishment of a fellowship program in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Additionally, Dr Flicker has demonstrated her commitment to quality and patient safety in obstetrics in roles such as Medical Director for Labor & Delivery, Chief of Obstetrics, and Vice-chair for Quality. She is a founding partner of the Connections program that compassionately provides care to pregnant women with substance use disorders. As a service line leader, she has inspired her team to re-imagine obstetrical care; the department now offers five different platforms for women and families to choose for their personalized prenatal care journey. Their large clinical enterprise is also organizing into care teams to connect patients to a smaller group of clinicians and nursing care.
Dr. Flicker has been active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists since residency and serves on the Pennsylvania section executive council where advocacy and health policy for women’s health are main priorities. Stemming from that involvement, she worked with a local congressman to draft and then effect passage of the legislation in 2018 to establish Pennsylvania’s statewide maternal mortality review committee to investigate maternal deaths in Pennsylvania and to provide recommendations for strategies to reduce the rate. Dr. Flicker then served as co-chairperson of the inaugural committee.
Her current work includes the advancement and promotion of an integrated women’s health service line including preventive care, gynecologic specialty care, and women’s health across other disciplines and specialties. This work will culminate in a destination center for women’s health that is central within the network and is surrounded by other hubs and spokes for access and convenience. Other interests include women in leadership, career mentorship and sponsorship, and clinician engagement and wellness.
On a personal note, she is married with two teenage sons and enjoys almost anything outdoors, time with extended family, and quiet time with a good book or a Netflix series.
